Some Suggested Resources for this Advent Season

Depending on who you talk to, it may or may not be too early play Christmas music.

Some people get annoyed when they hear Burl Ives blaring before Thanksgiving. Others think that the arrival of November means that it's ok to put up a Christmas tree. Regardless of your preference, as believers we should be able to agree that it's not too early to think about how we can make much of Christ during this upcoming Advent season. With that in mind, we'd like to point to some Advent resources that, we hope, will do just that.

Among the many good Advent resources, here are five that you may find helpful:*

1. The Expected One (Scott James)

2. Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus: Experiencing the Peace and Promise of Christmas (edited by Nancie Guthrie)

3. "The Dawning of Indestructible Joy": 24 Short Meditations for Advent (John Piper)

4. Unwrapping the Greatest Gift: A Family Celebration of Christmas (Ann Voskamp)

5. Prepare Him Room: Celebrating the Birth of Jesus Family Devotional (Marty Machowski)

In addition, you may also find the following sermon series from Radical helpful as you reflect on the meaning of Christ's coming:

- Incarnation: (David Platt teaches on the glorious reality of the Son of God taking on human flesh based on Philippians 2:5-11)

- The Expected One: (David Platt & other Brook Hills pastors teach on Christ's fulfillment of Old Testament promises with His coming)

- He Came: (David Platt & Bart Box give six reasons from Scripture on why Jesus came)

* We always encourage readers to be discerning and to compare what they read with Scripture. The listing of the books above does not mean that we are in full agreement with all of their content.
