PERSECUTED COMMUNITY // RIDGECREST & GLORIETA

Today’s interview is with Hal Hill. Hal is the Director of Glorieta Conference Center and Camps of LifeWay Christian Resources. He has been a youth pastor (and recreation minister) in three churches, served his denomination in three of its agencies in addition to his work in the camping industry. Hal, his wife and daughter live on site at Glorieta in NM. (His son and daughter-in-law are stationed at Columbus AFB in MS.)

SECRET CHURCH (SC) :: Why are you interested in hosting Secret Church at Ridgecrest and at Glorieta?

HAL HILL (HH) :: I have personally been impacted by David Platt’s teaching and by Radical. I am convicted that we need to pray for our brothers and sisters that are persecuted throughout the world and I believe we should be more outspoken and determined to live and share the Gospel in our own communities. Glorieta, in particular, is in a pioneer area of ministry.

SC :: What kind of experience do you hope to provide participants?

HH :: We hope many will join us in these mountains for a personal retreat – that they will stay on campus before and after the program to prepare for and reflect on the specifics that God is revealing to each individual. We expect the program to be a time of targeted study, revelation and intentional prayer.

SC :: How has Secret Church challenged you personally?

HH :: To broaden my concern for the world; to step outside of our church culture and consistently apply Christ’s teachings to every aspect of my life; to boldly proclaim Christ and the revolutionary power of His love and teachings.

SC :: How do you hope Secret Church will challenge the conference centers organizationally?

HH :: I hope the event will be one that our staff will embrace with excitement and purpose as a way we are directly impacting our community for Christ. More than that, I pray it will be a significant opportunity of growth for us as individuals… which will then impact us as a community.
