HONORING THE PERSECUTED // POOR

Real poverty comes in two different forms. The first and most important form of poverty is spiritual poverty. The second form of poverty is physical poverty or the inability to acquire the basic necessities of life.

Poverty no matter what form isn’t something that is limited to any one particular country. The poor exist here in America and overseas. It is safe to say that poverty is even more visible as you leave the United States.

Christ challenges us to take care of those less fortunate than ourselves. In Matthew Jesus challenged the rich young ruler to sale everything and give it to the poor. James describes pure and undefiled religion as “looking after orphans and widows in their distress” (James 1:27 HCSB).

Here are some simple ways to help:

- Yard work for a recent widow

- Take someone a meal

- Invite someone into your home for a meal

- Buy gift cards to pass out to those you see on the street

Please take some time this week to help someone in need. Don’t expect life change by just preaching the gospel to people you have to live it out as well. Pure religion is extending love to those less fortunate than ourselves.
